Faculty Tutor, Workshop Facilitator and Equine Welfare Director
Maria Olarte joined us in 2016 and she is a faculty tutor, workshop facilitator, Equine Welfare Director and is part of the office team handling client bookings and marketing. She has a BSc in Wildlife Conservation, gained a certificate in hypnotherapy and counselling and has qualified as an IFEAL EFHD Individual and Group Facilitator.
Her diverse human life has involved running several businesses from a livery yard, community shop and cafe, to a busy London bar. These were invaluable experiences but her heart always returned to horses. In between the years spent with her own species Maria has spent her horse life, from the age of 12 in her first and only Saturday job to assistant manager on leaving university, working at an Arabian stud. It was here she was able to nurture her horsemanship skills; learning from the horses, and constantly refining her handling methods with stallions, mares and youngsters. This was especially prevalent in her innovative foal training methods; using calm relational techniques to give her charges the best possible start in their life with humans. These skills she brings to the IFEAL herd’s human experience. She brings more than 30 years of horsemanship experience to the faculty group and she continues to explore ever softer and more relational horsemanship skills to enhance both the horse and the human’s experience of each other and indeed life.
